Heavily Textured, Lightly Worn

In the pursuit of innovation we have created our latest achievement in denim. The idea for Selvedge Air was born out of the love for old vintage denim and the need for comfort. We wanted to introduce a denim that had the look and feel of a 15oz denim but one felt light and very comfortable when worn. After a very long development process with a highly capable mill in Japan, we were finally able to make this vision a reality.

Instead of using the usual 3 X 1 weave of standard denim, we implemented a 5 x 1 weave. This creates a denim with a higher surface thread count but a lower overall thread count, making it lighter and still durable. The low tension yarns and loose denim weave contribute to the thicker look of the denim while maintaining its light feel. The overall result is a vintage textured denim that looks like heavy weight and feels like a lightweight.

4-Way stretch selvedge denim

Made in USA

Model is 6'2" and wearing a size 32.

Our premium denim is inspired by the classic vintage blue jean. Our Premium Japanese 4-Way Stretch Selvedge denim story starts in Japan where our fabric is developed at one of the oldest denim mills. We blend a unique 4 way stretch material with selvedge denim to create a specific amount of stretch and comfort you wouldn’t typically get with selvedge denim. This 360 degree of stretch gives the wearer comfort from every angle no matter what they are doing.

Our 4-Way Stretch selvedge fabric is weaved using vintage shuttle looms. Rolls of denim fabric are then brought into our workshop in Los Angeles where each pair goes through a 60 to 90 day process of cut, sew, washing and testing. With 4 fits available in multiple weights (see fit guide) and washes, the style options are endless.

I like what I see

I haven't wear or do any alteration yet, but I do like how it look and feel. I don't mind trying the lighter jean if I can get the same discount as the first one.

Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear you like our jeans!

The best jeans I’ve found

I buy too many jeans and nothing compares. They’re also softer than any raw jeans I’ve ever bought.

Yes, thanks to the 4way stretch material, our raw jeans are really comfortable even in a new condition. Thank you for proving that.

Most Comfortable Jeans, Ever!

Wow, I just got my first pair of Kato and have to say these jeans could not be made any better than this. The texture, weight, slight bit of stretch and comfort level has me questioning whether or not I want to throw out the rest of my denim. Without a doubt the best pair of jeans I’ve ever worn and I can’t wait to get my second pair!

Thank you for your nice words George. 11.5oz AIR is our new weight which looks heavy but is actually light. We are happy you tried those new material for your first purchase and liked it.

The texture on these is fantastic, the weight is perfect for raw, they feel crispy but soft, and have enough and fit me perfectly. One thing to watch out for though is the indigo bleeding, if you wear white shoes or a white shirt, and get them wet or sweaty they'll bleed onto those lighter items, you can see the indigo bleed through onto the inside of the pant too when you roll up the ankles. But that's the nature of quality indigo dyes. You just have to think ahead when wearing these. I'm 5.10, 168lbs, I wear a size 31.

Hi Joseph
