Hemmed pairs are non-returnable. We advise ordering without hemming until you've tried on the fit. You can return or exchange the pair in its original condition. To add hemming service to your exchange item, please contact customer support. Please allow up to 7 business days for the hemming service to be completed.
The inseam must not exceed the original length. Refer to our size chart for the original length and inseam measurement instructions. If your desired inseam is longer than the original, we will not provide hemming services. For raw jeans, consider adding extra inches to account for shrinkage. The original hem width will be maintained for all pants, including Axe's 1" hem.

Description

We are very excited to offer our first heavyweight denim! We pushed the limits of our 4-Way Stretch Selvedge to create The “Mammoth” 17.5oz 4-Way Stretch Selvedge. Nick Noguchi worked closely with a renowned Japanese mill to develop this one of a kind denim. For these new jeans, we went with a special Bordeaux Red selvedge ID, polished silver buttons, and a navy leather patch.

Heavyweight denim is uncommon because of how difficult it is to produce. Combining this heavyweight with our 4-Way Stretch Selvage results in a next level denim exclusive to Kato. This denim has the same look and comfort of our lighter 4-Way Stretch Selvedge, but is thicker and even more durable.

Why heavyweight denim? The thickness of the denim plays a big part in how the denim fades. The thicker the denim, the more pronounced the creasing will be. This creasing contributes to an increased contrast and definition of the fades. The stunning results of a pair of well worn heavyweight jeans is why denim connoisseurs around the world seek out these heavier denim weights.

The new “Mammoth” 17.5oz 4-Way Stretch Selvedge is available in Raw indigo denim and two distinct washes that have been carefully aged by hand. These three versions represent the different stages of denim jeans over the first several years of wear.

The original Raw indigo denim is a blank canvas for you to develop your own unique pair that ages according to your lifestyle and experiences. The Raw Indigo “Mammoth” is available in The Pen Slim, The Hammer Straight.

Shrinkage

Raw denim has up to 2% shrinkage while it would be 1% for washed denim after wash but they will also stretch out again by being worn over time.

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, You may return or exchange the items within 21 days from the date the order is shipped out.

Once your order with the hemming request is brought to our tailor, the order will not be refundable.

Denim wash and linen spray are not eligible for return or exchange.

Ridiculously high-quality denim

I never leave reviews, but these are THE BEST jeans I’ve ever worn.

I have four pairs from Kato so I already had high expectations around the craftsmanship, fit, & materials, but the 17.5 oz mammoth is just ridiculously good. Definitely follow the recommendations and size up on this weight.

Great jeans

They are stiff as a board and uncomfortable to start but getting better with every wear. Break in period will be well worth it!

Stout denim, nice fit

These are a little tricky on the fit, but fortunately they work for me. I normally wear a 32 in Kato and prefer the Pen and Scissors. I'm 6'2" and fluctuate between 170 and 175 lbs. Really the 32 in the Pen is a bit too big, but I've tried and the 31 is just too snug (especially upper thights/groin). 32 in Scissors is perfect for me, although I do have a tiny bit too much room in the waist (not noticeable when wearing a belt tho). Anyway, I bought these in a 32 and 33 based on the recommendation to size up. I think since the 32 in the lighter denim is a hair too big for me the 32 in Mammoth 17.5 oz is the sweet spot. The 33s were just way too big for me. Wearing these for the first time today... they're a big snug in the thigh and groin, but I expect that to loosen up just enough. Overall, very happy and look forward to seeing how these fade. Planning to wear daily for a few weeks and will report back if my opinion sways.
