We are very excited to offer our first heavyweight denim! We pushed the limits of our 4-Way Stretch Selvedge to create The “Mammoth” 17.5oz 4-Way Stretch Selvedge. Nick Noguchi worked closely with a renowned Japanese mill to develop this one of a kind denim. For these new jeans, we went with a special Bordeaux Red selvedge ID, polished silver buttons, and a navy leather patch.

Heavyweight denim is uncommon because of how difficult it is to produce. Combining this heavyweight with our 4-Way Stretch Selvage results in a next level denim exclusive to Kato. This denim has the same look and comfort of our lighter 4-Way Stretch Selvedge, but is thicker and even more durable.

Why heavyweight denim? The thickness of the denim plays a big part in how the denim fades. The thicker the denim, the more pronounced the creasing will be. This creasing contributes to an increased contrast and definition of the fades. The stunning results of a pair of well worn heavyweight jeans is why denim connoisseurs around the world seek out these heavier denim weights.

The Buddy wash replicates a pair of jeans that has about two years of wear with frequent washes. Frequent washing will give the jeans a more evenly faded appearance with less noticeable honeycombs and whisker fades. Available in the Hammer straight and the Scissors slim tapered cuts.

These jeans are heavier material and they take time to break in. For a comfortable fit, we advise opting for one size up.

Normally as a purchaser I do not write reviews, with that being stated Hiroshi Kato in which I purchased many pairs, each new material keeps increasing in quality, style is impeccable, durability enhanced, Kato's are one of my top two brands that I consider over the top, well worth the cost for looking your Casual best. my only criticism is on the tapered jeans and only focused on the "hemmed to fit" shorter inseams, the taper needs the inner seam opened so the proper taper can be maintained. Any good Taylor or seamstress should know this, Why Kato hemming fails at this is disappointing, knowing this aspect, I prefer no hemming and just cuff, perhaps this will bring to their attention and modifications in the future, I know I would be willing to pay the additional for tailoring. Sizing is true and awesome fit especially the stretch jeans. One last request please make all in a choice of zipper or button fly. Thank you for the opportunity to experience an almost perfect product and to offer a review.

Favorite so far

I have several pair of Kato jeans & love them all. These are my favorite, though. They are substantial, heavyweight, but with the stretch are very comfortable to wear. I love the fit – I’m 6’1” / 230, and wear a 36 in The Scissors. I have found the measurements given on their fit guide to be extremely accurate in all the pairs that I’ve measured. This makes it very easy to find your fit online. I’ll also add - their in-house hemming service works great even for pre-distressed models. It’s almost impossible to tell they’ve been hemmed.
Great job, will certainly continue to buy & wear this brand.
