Kato’s respect for denim reaches back decades. Our years of experience and research resulted in our own version of the sought after denim of the 70s. This fabric has been crafted with meticulous precision to replicate the uniform texture of the faded vintage denim collected for the Kato archives.
To make this a timeless pair of jeans, we chose our straight cut, “The Hammer” and the modern slim cut “The Pen”. The 12.5 ounce, 100% cotton denim does not have stretch but it will break in and mold to you, making it a pair you will want to wear for years. We wanted these jeans to be vintage down to the core details, so we introduced a button fly, using donut style laurel leaf buttons, which have been acid dyed to give them an authentic aged look. We also added a pop of color with a red leather patch, our own twist on the original. We are offering several versions of the Classic Slub Denim that represent different stages of aging.

Raw Indigo - Although This denim has never been washed, it is sanforized, a process that takes out almost all the shrinkage. The Raw Indigo denim has been dyed with a medium shade of indigo, giving it the tone you would find on a pair of jeans made in the 60s. After a few washes, the indigo deepens and becomes more vibrant before fading. The even weave, combined with the rope dying process, is perfect for someone who wants one of a kind fades that reflects the wearer’s lifestyle.

These are awesome! Perfect for anyone who wants a pair of raw jeans to break (100% cotton) in and hates getting blue indigo everywhere— wore these with white t shirts and sneakers and no dye transfer at all!

First pair of KATO jeans that did not match description

I have multiple KATO jeans and was really looking forward to rounding out my denim wardrobe with these… unfortunately the pictures look very different than the actual product. The jeans have more of a light blue/white sheen rather than the blue indigo look on the models. I should have expected the natural slub to be considerably whiter, but it just seems like an awkward color that’s hard to match. I really want to like the color with hopes it will fade into what I’m looking for… but that’s a big “what-if”for jeans at this price point. The returns process is incredibly easy, so it’s not too big a deal.

…….that being said, I LOVE the feel and drape of my raw natural slub white 14oz non-stretch pen slims, and was hoping these non-stretch natural slub indigo 12.5oz would get close to that but in a darker, less casual color. Are there any plans for more non-stretch options?

In general, we try to make the product photos look like an actual product, especially on mobile devices but we are sorry that it did not work as expected for you.
The non-stretch jeans have more blue-ish tone than other indigo pairs for vintage-ish look. My apologies if it did not meet your expectations.

perfect. this is the exact cut I've been looking for in raw denim. i'm pretty lanky and the Pen isn't too skinny or baggy. and i can't believe they're made in the U.S. you get what you pay for. props to Kato and Field Theory in STL.
