Our premium denim is inspired by the classic vintage blue jean. Our Premium Japanese 4-Way Stretch Selvedge denim story starts in Japan where our fabric is developed at one of the oldest denim mills. We blend a unique 4 way stretch material with selvedge denim to create a specific amount of stretch and comfort you wouldn’t typically get with selvedge denim. This 360 degree of stretch gives the wearer comfort from every angle no matter what they are doing.

Our 4-Way Stretch selvedge fabric is weaved using vintage shuttle looms. Rolls of denim fabric are then brought into our workshop in Los Angeles where each pair goes through a 60 to 90 day process of cut, sew, washing and testing. With 4 fits available in multiple weights (see fit guide) and washes, the style options are endless.

Quality and Comfort

I’ve always wanted to get a pair of Selvedge denim jeans but never managed to find a company I wanted to buy from that seemed to offer the quality I was looking for. I then found Hitoshi Kati and cautiously bought a pair of the indigo Hammer jeans; a straight fit and when they arrived they did not fail on delivering on what I was looking for. First of all, the quality of the denim is great and the construction fantastic, though not sure how the diagonal belt loop at the back will hold up but we’ll see. The fit of the Hammer at a little large, which I think will be perfect after I was them, I’m about a 35/36 and I bough the 38. So again, we’ll see how that pans out. I’ve had them about three weeks so far and they are comfortable and fit well, even being a size over. I expect they’ll be perfect once they’ve been through a few washes and bedded in. I loved them so much I went ahead and bought another pair in the straight fit. They fit really well and I hope they don’t shrink too much because they’re a lovely fit and again the quality is great. They are the stretch fabric so they should be more forgiving.
Great company, high quality products and a fair price for such well made gear. I have taken measurements and will see how much they shrink after a few washes and perhaps report back. So far so good and I’d highly recommend sizing up.

The best jeans I've ever purchased!

really balked at paying more than $75 for jeans but, man, what a difference - these are beautifully made, the material is superb and they fit really, really well!

Nice pair

Typically wear 32 waist in jeans but these felt a bit tight, returned for 33 and waist is fine (a little loose) -but overall fit was roomier. I'll maybe try the Scissor cut next. The Hammer's feel like the old 501s which I was looking for, but the cuff's and calfs do feel a bit wider on these than the 501s. All and all a good product. Wore em in a hot shower and bath once to shrink but they didn't seem to.

For raw jeans, our designer recommends a tight fit initially, as they will gradually conform to your body shape. If you're able to button them up, they should gradually adapt to your body shape over time. Great jeans

These are my first Kato purchase. There was a sale on the Hammer cut so I purchased after deliberating for quite a while. That said these are great jeans, but I wish they offered the hammer in a tapered cut. I’m in my mid 50s, so a skinny jean is out of the question, but a tapered cut would be perfect so I’m hoping you’ll offer these as an option. I believe the scissor cut would be too skinny but a tapered hammer cut would be perfect so I’m hoping you’ll offer these as an option. I believe the scissor cut would be too tight a fit since they’re more of a slim cut. I’m all about supporting American-made products and US manufacturing so please keep up the good work!
