Our premium denim is inspired by the classic vintage blue jean. Our Premium Japanese 4-Way Stretch Selvedge denim story starts in Japan where our fabric is developed at one of the oldest denim mills. We blend a unique 4 way stretch material with selvedge denim to create a specific amount of stretch and comfort you wouldn’t typically get with selvedge denim. This 360 degree of stretch gives the wearer comfort from every angle no matter what they are doing.

Our 4-Way Stretch selvedge fabric is weaved using vintage shuttle looms. Rolls of denim fabric are then brought into our workshop in Los Angeles where each pair goes through a 60 to 90 day process of cut, sew, washing and testing. With 4 fits available in multiple weights (see fit guide) and washes, the style options are endless.

Crafted with intention, our denim is made using premium Japanese 4-way stretch selvedge in our Los Angeles workshop. Our denim goes through a time consuming 50 day process from start to finish to ensure the highest of quality. Built using only the best available hardware with traditional machines and techniques, you are getting a true vintage inspired piece with a modern upgrade of comfort.

My second pair

I love this brand. This is my second pair. I had recently gained some weight. Couldn’t fit into my size 30. Loved the style and quality so much I decided on a second pair in 31. I’m 50, lean, 150lbs.

Love these jeans!

This is my 3rd pair and I absolutely love these jeans! They have become my daily go to pants for comfort and quality.
Another big plus is the quality zipper fly. Much easier and better than the traditional button fly IMO!

It took some trial and error, but I’ve found the denim I plan to wear until I’m too old to pull it off. I’m a 49 yr. old contractor. 6’ 190 lbs (long and lean). I need denim I can wear at job sites, as well as meetings with my clients. I don’t swing hammers, but I’m hauling materials and around dust daily. These aren’t intended to be “work” jeans I doubt, but they are as tough, as they are stylish.

(1st pair) I started with 31W 10oz Pen Slim. After a few nights of wearing them at home, I accepted they were too small, and I’d be donating them. (2) 32W Pen Indigo Raw 10.5 oz. These are awesome! Love most everything about them. The calves are snug and warm when it’s humid outside. (3) 32W Pen Indigo Raw 14 oz. These fit even better. Perfect for me. This weight feels more roomy. (4) I submitted a request for notice when the Pen Brown were in stock. I got the email, scared my dog, and ordered immediately. They came a few days ago. I’m wearing them now at home. (5) Not yet, but a Mammoth indigo raw is inevitable.

I want to own and consume less (not environment driven). I needed to simplify my wardrobe with high quality, long lasting pieces. Buying 2 pair of $250 jeans from a retailer every year, for 20 years, is bananas. I plan to wear these Kato’s hundreds of times.

If you’re on the fence, do it. Wear them for 50 hours, then you’ll start telling your people about them.
