A superior craftsman in the fashion industry, Hiroshi Kato continuously perfects his craft. He personally hand selects only the finest fabrics to create one-of-a-kind vintage-inspired pieces combining exceptional fabric and immaculate style.
Kato’s extensive career began 30 years ago during the denim boom in Japan. Vintage apparel (especially used Levi’s) was extremely popular, and Kato studied and scrutinized countless vintage pieces. He learned everything he could about fabric, processing, construction and functionality in order to discover the secret of vintage clothes.
The pieces created in his pursuit for the ultimate garment caught the eye of key influencers in the international fashion community and opportunity presented itself to Kato. He has designed pieces for designer labels all over the world. Not limited to design only, he has shared his fabric expertise and consulted at fabric mills in North America, Europe and Asia.
In 1999, Hiroshi Kato established the brand KATO' in Kyoto, Japan to share his passion for design and “artisan clothing” with the rest of the world.
KATO' is a reflection of the designer’s philosophy: “A garment simply completes the man. And the garment is not complete without the man wearing it.”
The acclaimed brand emphasizes attention to the smallest of details from intricate stitching, vintage trims, creative labels to individualized merchant tags.
All of the key elements are joined harmoniously with the textile tradition from Japan’s oldest city and cultural hub, Kyoto, and the vision of Hiroshi Kato to give birth to unique Made in USA garments that combine comfort, durability and style.
